Obituary of Samuel Walker

Samuel Stine Walker, 94, of Pa Furnace, died Monday, February 4, 2013, at the home of his daughter, Judy Bollinger, where he resided. Born July 1, 1918, in Ferguson Township, he was the son of the late Ralph Stine and Mary Elder Walker and he grew up on different farms in College and Ferguson Township. On June 16, 1938 he married Miriam Rimmey, who died on December 20, 1997. He is survived by three children, Elaine Musser and her husband, Frank, of Petersburg, Judy Marie Bollinger and her husband, Gary, of Pa Furnace, George Michael Walker, of N. Charleston, SC, two sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Conrad, of Port St. Lucie, Fl, Viola Rebecca Vonada, of Centre Hall, a sister in law, Lucy Walker, of Boalsburg, eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Along with his wife he was preceded in death by two sons, Edgar Stine Walker and his wife, Susan, James Eugene Walker, a daughter in law, Frieda, two sisters, Olive Harriet Williams and her husband, Oscar, Dorothy Bessie Shawver and her husband, Scott, a brother, William Ralph Walker, and two brother in laws, Jerry Conrad and Mervin Vonada. He was a 1936 graduate of State College High School. He was owner/operator at both Pine Grove Mills Clover Leaf Grocery Store from 1941-1946 and Pine Grove Mills IGA Grocery Store from 1953-1956. He was employed at Penn State University from 1956-1980 as an inventory controller, Meyer Dairy from 1981-2000. He also worked for Hotel State College and the Autoport Motel. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pine Grove Mills. He was a founding member of Ferguson Township Lions Club. He was also a charter member of the Pine Grove Mills Cemetery, where he served as Secretary and Treasurer for over thirty years. A private graveside service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Pine Grove Mills Cemetery with the Rev. Rick Wilson officiating.
