Obituary of Virginia Cross

Virginia Mae Cross, 89, of Belleville, died Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Valley View Retirement Community in Belleville. Born June 2, 1923, in Waterloo, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Ernest E. and Martha Peterson Rhoads. On June 14, 1943 she married William L. Cross, Jr. who preceded her in death on December 1, 2002. She is survived by five children, Diana L. Smyrl of West Chester, Rebecca G. Maynard and her husband, Don, of Alta Loma, California, Timothy C. Cross and his wife, Sharon, of Swedesboro, New Jersey, Claudia C. Mincemoyer and her husband, Tom, of Boalsburg, Andrew L. Cross and his wife, Jean Wallace, of Royersford; Four brothers, Stanley, Ivan, Gordon, Philip Rhoads; three sisters, Alice MacIntosh, Laura Mason, Mary Jane Dawson; Eleven grandchildren, Joel, Erin, Kaitlyn, Ashley, Stephanie, Timothy Jr., Ryan, Tyler, Hanna, Alexandra, Taylor; six great-grandchildren, Mason, Annabelle, Riley, Leah, Jax and Miles. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and David Rhoads and two sisters, Ruth Rudes and Esther VanLuvanee. Virginia was a current member of Park Forest Baptist Church and she formerly was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Brookhaven. She was an avid golfer, square dancer and she enjoyed watching her grandchildren's sporting events. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10-11 a.m. at the Park Forest Baptist Church, 3030 Carnegie Drive, State College, on Saturday, February 16, 2013 with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m., with the Reverend Dr. James P. Nolton officiating. Private burial will be in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ¬¬¬¬the Park Forest Baptist Church Youth Group, 3030 Carnegie Drive, State College, PA 16803.
