Obituary of Melvin Kauffman

Melvin L. "Pete" Kauffman, 70, of Pennsylvania Furnace, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at his residence. Born July 22, 1942, in Pennsylvania Furnace, he was the son of the late Melvin F. and Etta Mae Albright Kauffman. On November 6, 1961, in State College, he married Shelva J. Brooks, who survives. Also surviving is one daughter, Lisa M. Poorman and her husband, Robert "Buck", of Pennsylvania Furnace; two sisters, Sarah Gummo of Petersburg and Darlene Hoch and her husband, Ed, of Lemasters; one brother, Roy Kauffman of Centre Hall; two grandchildren, Ashley and Garrett Poorman. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and one brother, Boyd Kauffman. Pete was previously employed at Glass Incorporated of State College, as the Director of Maintenance for Uni-Marts Inc. and up until recently, he was a school bus driver and cafeteria aide for the State College Area School District. He adored his school kids. He attended The Bible Baptist Church of Warriors Mark. Pete played in several area softball leagues and was known for his homerun hitting. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, golfing, NASCAR, and keeping his lawn looking sharp. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He will be sadly missed by many, especially his lap dogs Rambo and Buddy. Visitation will be 6 until 8 p.m., Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Sunday, March 24, 2013, at the funeral home, with the Pastor Alan Kilian officiating. Burial will be in Meyer Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the The Bible Baptist Church, PO Box 125, Warriors Mark, PA 16877. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
