Obituary of Naomi Fischer

Naomi A. Fischer, 97, of State College, PA died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Fairways at Brookline following an extended illness. Born in Coburn, PA on January 25, 1916 she was the daughter of Hilda Shaffer and Paul Fyffe Anderson. She graduated with a BA in Sociology from Penn State in 1937 where she met her late husband, Floyd B. Fischer. After residing for a brief period in several other Pennsylvania communities including Litiz, PA, she returned to State College when Floyd accepted a position with Penn State in Continuing Education. She was employed in the office of the Department of Chemistry at Penn State for a period of time after which she returned to being a full-time homemaker and community volunteer. She took great pride in creating a beautiful and comfortable home and her love of flowers and plants was evident in her lush, colorful garden and yard. Friends often asked her to create flower arrangements for special events. Naomi enjoyed travel and took numerous trips to the Far East, Europe and many places in the United States and Canada. She and her husband also took many extended vacations to Florida where they fished, golfed and played "guts" poker with friends from State College. She was predeceased by her husband Floyd B. Fischer (1994). She is survived by her brother Paul F. Anderson of State College, PA; son, Richard B. Fischer and daughter-in-law Claudia Fischer of Landenberg, PA; grandson, Robert B. Fischer and his wife Royer, Elkton, MD. Naomi was an avid Penn State football fan having at one period never missed a home football game for more than 30 years. She also traveled to many away games and bowl games. She was always a vocal cheerleader in the Beaver Stadium stands. Her support for Penn State ran deep. She was a charter member of the Nittany Lion Club and she and Floyd endowed many student scholarships in Engineering, Liberal Arts, Education, Athletics and the World Campus. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S.
