Obituary of William Peiffer

William John Peiffer, 69, of Tucson, Arizona, died Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at The University of Arizona Medical Center, Arizona. Born in West Reading, PA, he was the son of Walter William Peiffer (deceased) and Jean Doris Peiffer. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Williams Peiffer of State College, PA, whom he married on March 30, 1968 at the Eisenhower Chapel on the Penn State University Campus. He is also survived by his mother Jean Doris Peiffer of Wyomissing, PA; one brother, James W. Peiffer and his wife, Linda Peiffer, of The Villages, FL. William graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. in Mathematics Education in 1966 and a Master of Education in 1967. During his undergraduate years he lettered in varsity cross-country, indoor track, and outdoor track. He earned a Doctorate of Education in Statistics and Measurement from Rutgers University in 1978. He taught Mathematics at Watchung Hills Regional High School, Warren, NJ from 1967-1982 when he was promoted to Mathematics Department Supervisor. He was an award-winning coach of cross-country, indoor and outdoor track, and was named the 2002-2003 Coach of the Year in Men's Cross Country by the NJ State Board of Governors. Upon his retirement in 2005, the school's cross-country course was named in his honor. He was elected to the Watchung Hills Regional High School Hall of Fame in 2009. During retirement in Arizona, William and Kathy traveled extensively and were active members of the Tucson Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association, serving as co-presidents for a year. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, October 19th at 1 pm at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College, PA. Visitation hours are 6-8 pm Friday the 18th. Internment will be in the Spring Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
