Obituary of Robert Sallade

Robert Kepley Sallade, 88, died March 6, 2011, at The Fairways at Brookline Village in State College. Mr. Sallade was born October 5, 1922, in Philadelphia, the only child of Herbert E. and Florence Kepley Sallade. From 1943 to 1946, Mr. Sallade served in the U.S. Army in Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment 190th Ordnance BN with the rank of T4. After graduating from the Small Arms Repair School at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, Sgt. Sallade served in England, the Philippines and Japan. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. On June 20, 1953, Mr. Sallade married Laura Elizabeth Johnston, who survives at home. For thirty years, he was an Industrial Arts teacher in the State College Area Schools, retiring in 1982. In addition to his wife, Mr. Sallade is survived by two sons: Dr. John Robert Sallade and his wife, Annie, of Wyomissing, and Thomas David Sallade, and his wife, Jeanne, of Pennsylvania Furnace. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Rev. Mark Sallade and his wife, Jenn of Glenside, Janna Sallade Roper and her husband, Paul, of Nashville, Tenn., Robert Johnston Sallade and Laura Elizabeth Sallade of Wyomissing, Thomas Douglas Sallade, Aaron James Sallade, Benjamin Kepley Sallade and Sarah Jane Sallade, all of Pennsylvania Furnace, and two great-grandchildren: Anna Kate Sallade and John "Jack" Hamilton Roper. At Mr. Sallade's request, there will be no public visitation. Services conducted by Reverend Mark Sallade will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the State College Presbyterian Church, 132 West Beaver Ave., State College, PA 16801 or to Schlow Centre Region Library, 100 East Beaver Ave., State College, PA 16801.
