Obituary of L. Claude Homan

L. Claude Homan, 90, of State College, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born June 17, 1920, in Ferguson Township, he was the son of the late Charles T. and Hannah Mae Hoy Homan. On January 26, 1946 he married his wife, Bernadine Smith Homan , who preceded him in death on March 20, 1991. He graduated with honors from State College High School in 1937. He attended Penn State University where he wrestled varsity until he sustained a shoulder injury. Claude was an active member who served on church council and other committees of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Grove Mills. He served on the State College Area School Board and was a member of the first State High Wrestling Team. He was a life-long farmer who dedicated his life to preserving and protecting the Homan Farm, avid hunter, and lover of nature. He loved and had fun with all his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Charlotte Knudsen and her husband, Paul, of Dillsburg, Joseph Homan and his wife, Delorse, of State College, and Christine Renninger and her husband, Patrick of Elizabethtown. He is also survived by his siblings, Dorothy Klinger of Boalsburg, Luella Hassinger and her husband, Harry, of Boalsburg, and Alton Homan of Towanda. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Dawn Lusk, Paula Burke, Claudia Braymer, Matthew Homan, and Joseph, Carissa, and Andy Corish, ,and five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Kathryn, and Tristan Lusk, Francis and James Burke, and Sue Ellen Braymer. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Maurice, Edgar, Wray, Harold, Lee, and Albert Homan and sister, Mary Ruhl. His visitation will be held on Friday, December 9, 2010 from 10-11 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Pine Grove Mills, 277 W. Pine Grove Rd. His funeral service will follow at 11 AM at the church with the Rev. Kelley Baxter officiating. Interment will be in Centre County Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 277 W. Pine Grove Rd,. Pine Grove Mills, PA 16868.
