Obituary of Jean Hochstetler

Jean M. Hochstetler, age 96, formerly of Ohiopyle, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at The Inn at Brookline Village, where she had resided since 1995. Born on August 12, 1914, in New Salem, the daughter of George William and Christina Belle Keck Metz. She was married for 52 years to James Robinson Hochstetler, who died in 1994 . Jean graduated Valedictorian from South Union High School in 1932 and from Indiana State Teachers College in 1936 with a Bachelor Degree in Education. She taught for a combined 30 years in Ohiopyle High School, South Union High School, Ohiopyle -Stewart Joint School, and Uniontown Area School District, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the Pennsylvania and Fayette County Associations of School Retirees. She belonged to Pi Kappa Sigma at Indiana State Teachers College and was a Charter Founder of the Uniontown Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She also was a member of the Falls City Baptist Church of Ohiopyle and volunteered at Mount Nittany Medical Center in the Case Management Dept. Surviving are two daughters, Jean Ann Shields and husband James E. of Lewis Run, and Jamie Louise Morrison and husband Robert W. of Boalsburg. She is also survived by four grandchildren: James E. Shields, JR. and wife Jaime, Jeffrey D. Shields and wife Jody, David A. Morrison and wife Allison, and Sarah Anne Morrison . Also survived by three great grandchildren, James Xavier and Hunter Reese Shields and Brooke Alyse Morrison and a niece Carol Morgan. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Keck Nixon and a brother John Frederick Metz. . Friends will be received at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton St., State College, on Sunday, April 17, 2011, from 1:30-3:30 followed by the funeral service at 3:30 pm with Pastor Brent England officiating.. Burial will be in Addison Cemetery in Addison. Memorial contributions may be made to The Inn at Brookline, 1930 Cliffside Drive, State College, PA. 16801, or to The Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center, 1800 East Park Ave., State College, PA. 16803 in support of the Case Management Department, or the Lewis Run Volunteer Fire Department, Box 42, Lewis Run, PA. 16738.
