Years ago I saw the movie Broadcast News. In the movie a character played by Holly Hunter has several scenes where she just sits and sobs for no apparent reason. We don’t know why she is crying, but cry she does, and then she just stops and returns to her day empowered. Like this character, some people schedule time into their day to release their grief emotions. Others watch a movie, listen to music, look at pictures – they do something to trigger their emotions. For me, scheduling doesn’t work, but providing space to surrender to them when they do rise is helpful. The freedom to allow ourselves to grieve is such an important part of the healing journey
