Our theme this month is: As long as you don’t mention actual death, as long as it isn’t real, everything is alright. How do you care for yourself? I’ve heard that Europeans say Americans think death is optional. Although that might not be totally accurate, it seems to me that we don’t like to talk about it very much. More than once I’ve had the experience of being at a social gathering and being asked about the work I do. When I explain that it involves helping people create funerals and companioning people on their grief journeys, the conversation gets quiet. Are you comfortable thinking and talking about death?
