Obituary of Helen L. Beattie

Helen L. Beattie, 94, of State College, passed into eternity December 27, 2015 at the Village at Penn State. Born May 3, 1921, in Morgantown, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Harley and Fern Crane. On June 20, 1942 she married James M. Beattie, who died March 4, 2009. She graduated from Hyattsville High School in Hyattsville, MD and received a BS degree from the University of Maryland in 1942. Helen was a member of the State College Presbyterian Church and served as an ordained Elder and visiting Deacon. She participated on the Ferguson Township election board for 10 years, was a member of the University Women's Club, a volunteer at Centre Community Hospital, a former member of PEO, Delta, Delta, Delta sorority and Centre Hills Country Club. Helen is survived by two sons, James S. and his wife, Karen, from Elkhart, IN and William C. and his wife, Kathy, from Little Rock, AR, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Wotring and brother, Julian Crane. Helen had an upbeat personality and was quite social. She loved to cook - homemade soups and meatloaf were her specialties. She especially loved animals and always said, "You know, animals are a lot smarter than we give them credit for". Her "you can do that "attitude made a significant positive impact on her family. She had saving faith in her Lord Jesus Christ and now is in His presence for eternity. A Celebration of Life service will take place at a future date, where friends will be received following the service. Burial will be private at Centre County Memorial Park. Grateful thanks from the family go to the staff of the Atrium, Village at Penn State with special recognition to Molly Medlock and Janice Germann for their incredible willingness to help Helen.
