Obituary of Elwood W. Snyder

Elwood “Woody” W. Snyder Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, of State College, passed unexpectedly on April 13, 2016, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born June 23, 1945 in Altoona, he was the son of the late James and Esther Riggle Snyder. He married Mary Jean Rainelli on November 20, 1967, who survives at home. Along with his loving wife, Mary Jean, he is survived by three children, Crystal L. Cole, of State College, Elwood “Sonny” Walter Snyder, Jr., of Pueblo, CO, Seana R. Snyder, of State College, a brother, James Snyder and his wife, Cindy, of Newry, three grandchildren, Stone and Shane Cole, Jonah Snyder, numerous brother-in-law’s, sister-in-law’s, nieces and nephews.. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Salyards. Woody was a 1963 graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the United States Army where he served with the 630th Military Police Company in the Vietnam War. Following his service in the Army, he was employed as a Police Officer in Altoona. He also worked for Consolidated Freightways and following his retirement, he worked for Fullington Tours. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandsons and friends. He loved Penn State Football and vacationing at the beach. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Koch Funeral Home with Fr. Charles M. Amershek, Jr., officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
