Ann Spaeth

Obituary of Ann Marie Spaeth

Ann Marie Spaeth of State College, PA, formerly of New Milford, CT, died on May 3, 2016, after a long debilitating illness. She was born on June 4, 1940 in New York City, the daughter of the late Camille and Ida (nee Therrien) Spaeth. Ann attended Yonkers (NY) Public Schools graduating in 1958 with a diploma in secretarial studies from the High School of Commerce. Upon graduation, Ann worked as a secretary for E.J. Davis Insurance and Real Estate, Yonkers, NY. Then while living in White Plains, NY, she was employed for many years as a secretary/stenographer at General Foods Corporation, White Plains, NY, and at I.T.T. Continental Baking, Rye, NY. After moving to Connecticut, she worked as an office manager for the medical offices of Drs. Hubbard, Bethel, CT. Later, she was an administrative secretary at Union Carbide Corporation, Danbury, CT, retiring from that responsible position in the early 1990s. Ann was an avid reader and a talented stitcher of crewel embroidery. Also, she enjoyed decorating her home with bold wallpaper prints, tasteful art or antique furniture. Ann found pleasure in cooking fine meals. Never one to just do a basic meal she loved to experiment and try new recipes. Her other interests included attending Broadway shows or traveling about the USA. Her venturesome spirit, emboldened her to take a hot air balloon ride over the field and streams of northwest Connecticut in the mid 1980s. Family was important to Ann. She enjoyed the company of her daughter Lara and other family or friends while hosting parties or family barbecues. Ann was a practical, pragmatic person, but with a very caring nature for others. As the oldest of her siblings, Ann was always mindful of the needs of others. Even while hospitalized herself, Ann would ask about the health and well-being of other family members. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Corinne Marcelle, and a brother, John Louis. Ann is survived by her loving daughter, Lara Michelle Glembock, State College, PA, and her sisters, Adele Louise Colver, Beeville, TX, Genevieve Cecilia Magliari, Darien, CT, and her brother, Edmond Spaeth, Fishkill, NY. A dear cousin, Marjorie Bleach, Lords Valley, PA, will also cherish her memory. Additionally, Ann is survived by several nieces, a nephew and grand nephews. A memorial service to follow at a later date in Dutchess County, NY. Thank you to all the staff at the Hearthside for her care. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored if donations were made to the Schlow Library Foundation, 211 S. Allen Street, State College, PA 16801. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College. Online condolences and signing of the guest book may be entered at www.kochfuneralhome.com.
