Obituary of Bertha C. Wilson

After 100+ years lived well, Bertha Caroline Wilson died peacefully at home in State College, PA on July 4, 2016. She was born in Roxbury, MA in August of 1915 to the late Reinhold and Mathilda Knopp. Bert grew up in Roxbury and Brookline Massachusetts where she worked part-time as a sales associate in family bakeries while she attended high school. She graduated from high school in 1933. On a blind date, Bert met the love of her life, and on July 26, 1937 she married Charles P. Wilson. For 58 years, she and her husband lived in Weymouth, MA, where she was a homemaker. She was the eldest of three children, and she enjoyed years of love-filled and humorous get-togethers with her family and those of her brother and sister. In 2007, she and her husband moved to State College to live with their son Ken and his wife Jan. After losing her beloved Charlie in 2007, and Ken and Jan in 2012, Bert lived with her adopted cat Jessie, her grand-daughter Cris and great-grandson Jake. Bert was an avid reader, lover of crossword puzzles, treasured daily talks on the phone with her daughter Barbara, the company of her many caretakers and time with her cat Jessie. Bert and her grand-daughter Cris delighted in spending quiet afternoons together among the patio flowers and visits from the variety of critters which appreciated being fed there. Those who knew Bert enjoyed her ready smile, attentive ear, delightful laugh, and her caring and sweet disposition. Bert is also predeceased by her husband, Charlie Wilson, son Ken Wilson, brother Ray Knopp, sister Evelyn Tully, grandson Ed Morgan, and daughter-in-law Jan Wilson. She is survived by her daughter Barbara C. King, her grand-daughter Cris Wilson, her great-grandson Jake Wisnosky, numerous nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren, friends and dedicated caregivers who will miss her dearly. A private graveside service will be held August 2nd at Graysville Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Calvary Church, 150 Harvest Fields Dr., Boalsburg, PA 16827.
