Obituary of Martha M. Stewart

Martha M. Stewart, 93, of State College, died Thursday, January 26, 2017, at Foxdale Village Anthony House. Born August 5, 1923, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Julia Urban Mehlferber. In 1945 she married John Warren Stewart, who passed away in 2004. She is survived by three children, Barbara S. Prendergast and husband Jim of Ottowa, IL, John "Alan" Stewart and his wife Karen of Boalsburg, and Paul F. Stewart and his wife Marlene of Bridgeville; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Walter Mehlferber and his wife Kay of New Smyrna Beach, FL. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Mehlferber Ostrander. Martha attended Munhall High School. She worked as a secretary for US Steel, where she met her husband, and later for Woodland Hills School District. Martha was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. She was a former member of St. Susanna's Catholic Church in Penn Hills. She was an avid seamstress and knitter, a wonderful baker, enjoyed playing bridge, golf, and bowling, and enjoyed sailing, spending summers at their house on Lake Chautauqua. There will be a celebration of life at a later date. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be directed to Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 22 East Chautauqua St. Mayville, NY, 14757. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
