Obituary of Marcene Rose Twark

Marcene Rose Twark, 82, of State College, died unexpectedly on Monday, October 2, 2017 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born on October 19, 1934 in Panama, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Dorothy Zimmerman. On December 27, 1969, she was united in marriage to Richard David Twark in Ravenna, Ohio, who survives. They made their home in State College, where Richard was a professor at Penn State University. Also surviving are three children, David Twark of State College, Jennifer and her husband, Joseph Gersch Jr., of Mingoville and Joanne Twark of State College; two sisters, Elaine Zimmerman and Dolores Stessman and two brothers, Allan and Don Zimmerman of Panama, IA; her aunt Mary A. Schaben of Earling, IA; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, her sister Grace and brother Harold. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1952. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Mount St. Scholastica, now known as Benedictine College at Atchison, Kansas. Marcene taught elementary school for 14 years at St. Joseph's School in Earling Iowa, St. Agnes School in Omaha, and a year at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School in State College. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Friends will be received from 6 until 8 p.m., on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial Contributions may be made to Centre County PAWS, 1401 Trout Rd, State College, PA 16801, the Clearwater Conservatory, 2555 N. Atherton St., State College, PA 16803 or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
