Obituary of Nancy Hallberg

Nancy Dawn Welsh Hallberg, 49, of Stormstown, died February 8, 2012, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College, PA. She was born in Bellefonte, PA, October 22, 1962, daughter of William H. Welsh and Joanne Putnam Welsh, currently residing in La Luz, New Mexico. On April 27, 1985, she married Brian William Hallberg, who survives at home. Nancy is also survived by her children, Brandon R. Hallberg and Gretchen A. Hallberg, both of Stormstown, and a brother, Gregory H. Welsh, with his wife, Lydia Welsh, in California City, California. Nancy was a graduate of Somerset Area High School, and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications at Penn State University in 1984. Nancy was employed by The Pennsylvania State University in many roles, most recently as an Instructional Technologist at the World Campus. In her role, she created many technological tools essential to students studying at a distance. Outside of her work, Nancy was an avid scrapbooker, reader, runner, and genealogist.. She ran two marathons, Steamtown in 2004 (4:46:27), and Philadelphia in 2008 (5:33:43). In addition, she ran several half-marathons and was on relay teams for the Tussey Mountainback 50-Mile Ultramarathon and the Canoe Creek triathlon. Nancy's indomitable spirit always rose to a challenge, be it skydiving, running, tracing family history or trying something--anything--new. Visitation will be 5-8 pm on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012, at 11 am at the funeral home with Rick LaDue officiating. A private burial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Centre Volunteers in Medicine, 2520 Green Tech Drive, Suite D, State College, PA 16803, or Penn State THON, 210 Hetzel Union Building, University Park, PA 16802.
