Obituary of Gareth Aiden Prebble

Gareth Aiden Prebble, age 21, died peacefully in the presence of family on April 26th, 2023, at his home in Lemont. Gareth was born on December 3rd, 2001 in State College, Pennsylvania to Brandy and Travis Prebble. Gareth is survived by his parents, his brother Collin, several cousins, aunts, and uncles, grandparents Pam and Steve Faust, grandmother Anne Prebble, and great grandparents Shirley and Shimer Berkey. He is predeceased by his grandfather, Bruce Berkey, grandfather Earl Prebble Jr, great grandparents Mabel and Earl Prebble Sr, and great grandparents Frances and Elmer Jackson. Gareth was never happier than when surrounded by music, which culminated in joining the State High marching band on cowbell. He also embraced new experiences and challenges despite being born with cerebral palsy and enjoyed horseback riding, bicycling, swimming, boating, and fishing throughout his life. Gareth also enjoyed the small moments, like playing pinball with his father, adventuring outdoors with his mother, and playing videogames with his brother. In January of 2014, Gareth was recognized for his winning entry in the Martin Luther King Commemoration Student Showcase Essay Contest and was recognized on the floor of the US House of Representatives for his achievement and his message. Gareth's reach and impact was far greater than anyone might have thought. He inspired those who took the time to know and work with him. Mostly, though, he will be remembered by family and friends for his sense of humor and heartwarming smile. A private family gathering celebrating Gareth will be scheduled at a future date. His family asks that any donations honoring Gareth be made to Centre Region Parks and Rec in support of the Whitehall Road Regional Park and their "We Play Together" accessible facilities.
