Dale (Doug) Zimmerman, 88, formerly of State College, PA died on June 13th surrounded by his loved ones at Hart Heritage Assisted Living in Street, MD. He was born on April 7, 1935, in Arnold, PA, to Alvin and Bertha Zimmerman. Dale was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who always made sure a job was done right.
Dale is survived by his wife of 62 years, Martha Zimmerman, and his children Doug Zimmerman (Sandy), Marcy Thomas (Ed), AJ Zimmerman (Leslie), and Sally Savidge (Bart). He is also survived by his nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Dale was preceded in death by his father Alvin Zimmerman, mother Bertha Zimmerman, brothers George Zimmerman and Alvin Zimmerman Jr., and sisters Dorothy Zimmerman and Martha Werner.
After graduating from Arnold High School, Dale served in the Navy from 1953-1957 where he maintained planes aboard a naval aircraft carrier. Dale received his Bachelors and Masters in Electrical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. He worked the majority of his career as an electrical engineer at Locus and the Naval Research Lab. Dale also served as a volunteer firefighter with the Alpha Volunteer Fire Company in State College, PA.
Dale worshiped at Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church in State College, PA. He was an active member of the American Legion, VFW and BPO Elks Clubs. He enjoyed fishing, working outside in the yard, watching Penn State football, basketball and wrestling.
A memorial service will be held at Koch’s Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College, PA on Saturday July 29, 2023 at noon. Visitation will begin at 11 am.
