Obituary of Jr. Leamer

Donald B. Leamer, Jr., 88, of Boalsburg, died Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Greenhills Village, State College. Born August 25, 1923, in Altoona, he was the son of the late Donald B. and Lena Peters Leamer. On June 27, 1966 he married Betty Anne Evey Jones, who survives. He is survived by one daughter, Mary Jo Rubin (Jay) of Belleville; two step children, Sharon L. Patrick (George) of State College and Larry E. Jones (Shirley) of Ardmore, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Jamie Brown (Stephanie), Jeremy Brown (Sydney), Daniel Jones (Kali), Joshua McClintic, and Travis McClintic; and two great grandchildren. Donald was a 1942 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School, and he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force Unit in June, 1942. During his service with the Army Air Force, he received a Distinguished Unit Badge, seven Bronze Service Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, an American Theater Ribbon, and five Overseas Bars. After discharge from the U.S. Army Air Force Unit in October, 1945, Don began employment with Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania where he spent the last portion of his career as a PBX telephone equipment installer based on Penn State's University Park campus. He retired in October, 1982 after 36+ years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and New Care, American Legion Post 245, and a life member of the State College Elks Lodge No. 1600. Don loved to fuss with his vehicles and his lawn and was meticulous about them. He lived by the adage "a place for everything and everything in its place." Don was a particularly warm and caring individual with a quick wit. It is these qualities that he shared freely as a wonderful husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and neighbor. He will be greatly missed by friends and family but his warm and caring gestures and quick wit will be a large part of the special memories that we will carry with us. There will be a memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Home Nursing Agency Hospice at 201 Chestnut Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601 or Greenhills Village at 301 Farmstead Lane, State College, PA 16803. A special thank you goes to both of these agencies and their staff for the special care that they provided to Don and continue to provide to his wife, Betty Anne.
