Obituary of Donald Kenneth Hackman

Donald Kenneth Hackman, 79, of Gatesburg, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at home.

Born May 13, 1944, in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Elwood Stauffer and Dorothy Marie Peterman Hackman. On August 17, 1968 he married Judith Ann Miller, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sara Ann Hackman Smith and her husband, Joshua, of Bellefonte, and a brother, Michael David Hackman and his wife, Susan, of Mt. Joy.

Don graduated from M.S. Hershey High School in 1962 and went on to serve in the United States Army with the Medical Unit. He obtained an Associate's Degree in Marketing from Susquehanna University and worked in Archery Sales for Precision Shooting Equipment and Bear Archery.

Don lived a very full and active life. He attended Calvary- Harvest Fields Church and was a member of numerous organizations including, White Deer Hunting Club, United Bowhunters of PA, and Pennsylvania State Archery Association. He was an instructor for the Youth Hunter Education Course and for the Harrisburg Area Community College. He was passionate about volunteering for the Special Olympics and was a proud donor for Schlow Library.

Don loved to read, learn about history, practice the sport of Archery and found joy traveling the world while hunting. He loved taking his family on various vacations, frequently visiting national parks. He and his daughter Sara spent good times together biking and attending Penn State Hockey games. He made friends wherever he went with his social and friendly nature and will be remembered for his generosity.

Visitation will take place from 9:30 AM- 10:30 AM on October 7 at Calvary Church, Harvest Fields, followed by a memorial service at 10:30 AM with Pastor Dan Nold and Pastor Stacy Sublett officiating.   A luncheon will follow the memorial service.

In honor of Don's preferences, attendees are encouraged to wear a shade of blue, Don's favorite color.
