Obituary of Michael S. Weyant

Michael S. Weyant, 48, of Boalsburg, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Mount Nittany Medical Center surrounded by family and loved ones.

Born November 26, 1974, in Windber, he was the son of Alan Dale and Karen (Corley) Weyant. On May 9, 1998 he married Teresa Hammond, who survives.

He is survived by his father, Alan of New Paris; his mother Karen and her spouse, Laurie Viehdorfer, of Boalsburg; three children, Kayla S. Jabco and her husband, Joshua, of Bellefonte, Kacey L. Weyant and his partner, Brianna Keith, of Boalsburg, Karissa L. Weyant of Boalsburg; and three grandchildren, Jocelynn and Kenton Jabco and Sage Weyant. He was preceded in death by three heavenly grandchildren.

Michael was a 1992 graduate of State College High School. Following high school, he graduated from Penn Tech College with a degree in carpentry. He worked for Master Renovators and Builders of Centre Hall for 30 years.

For over 22 years, Michael served our country from February 1992 until February 2014, in the Army Reserves and active duty as a Master Sergeant in Korea and Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. For his service he received the Bronze Star, Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf cluster, Army Reserve Components Achievement Award with two Oak Leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Bronze Hourglass device, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M" device, Army Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Overseas Ribbon. In addition, he was awarded the Expert Marksmanship Badge for Mortars, Sharpshooter Badge for Rifle (M16) and Sharpshooter badge for Grenades.

With his outgoing nature and love of sports, he participated in the Bellefonte bowling league, slow pitch softball and golf. He continued to serve the local community as a member of the Boalsburg Fire Company, serving as Assistant Chief 304, 303, 3-2 and Cap 3-1. Michael belonged to the American Legion in State College and was a life member of the VFW in Pleasantville.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 2-5 pm at the Boalsburg Fire Hall, 113 E. Pine St., Boalsburg, PA 16827 with Pastor Joshua Simonetti officiating and military honors following the service. A First Responder Parade honoring the life and service of Michael will process through Boalsburg following the Celebration of Life.
