Herb loved sharing stories of his football days at West Allis Central High School. He played four years as a Guard. During those years he was chosen Most Valuable Player and team Captain. He also played for the Wisconsin State Football league (a state amateur football league). The undefeated team won the state championship that year. He was a serious collector of war memorabilia.
