Obituary of Mary Ellen Dunkel

Mary Ellen Dunkel of State College ended her journey on earth February 9, 2024 and went home to glory. Mary was a beautiful, generous woman who endeavored to enrich the lives of her family, friends and community.

Mary was born in Clearfield, March 15, 1934. The daughter of Alfred and Helen Beightol, she was the youngest of 4 children and the last to leave this earth.

In 1951 she married John Dunkel, who proceeded her in death in 1990. Together they had 4 children who survive, Dorothy Johnson/Mark of Pine Grove Mills, John Dunkel/Rose of Phoenix , Susan DiCorpo/Christopher from Connecticut and Judy DeArmon/David from Texas and one son Steven who died at birth.

Mary is also survived by 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

As well as being a wonderful Mother and Grandmother, Mary ran her own insurance agency for 23 years. While doing that she was a member of Rotary, Business and Professional Women, served as supervisor of Ferguson Township and sang with the Sweet Adelines. For many years she was the organist at the Fairbrook Methodist Church. She is now a member of Pine Grove Mills Presbyterian Church.

Mary is also remembered as a caring and good friend to many and surrogate Mom to a few young women who admired her character and kindness.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the Pine Grove Mills Presbyterian Church, 150 W Pine Grove Rd, Pennsylvania Furnace, PA 16865 with Reverend Carl Campbell officiating.
