Obituary of Lettie DeLauter

Lettie DeLauter of State College, died of pneumonia on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, at the age of 89 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center. Born August 27, 1922, in Buffalo, NY, Lettie was raised in State College, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Professor Martin Halvor Knutsen and her mother, Bernice Rousseau Knutsen; a brother, The Rev. Martin Halvor Knutsen, Jr., and wife, Elaine of Sonoma, CA. Lettie attended the Frazier Street Elementary School and the State College High School. She was a drummer with the American Legion Junior Drum and Bugle Corps that was organized in March,1936. During her membership with the Corps, they won two State Championships and one National Championship. Lettie attended the Pennsylvania State University, and after college began her professional career with the Registrar's Office that was at that time located in the basement of Old Main. Initially she worked as a Recorder and through her career of almost 40 years of service, attained the position of Assistant Registrar. She was responsible for the coordination of graduation diplomas for all campuses in the Penn State system. Lettie was deeply committed to her family. She also enjoyed gardening, knitting, and traveling, and was an avid reader, often commenting that she had seen many parts of the world through her books. Lettie is survived by her son, the Rev. Joseph Halvor Delauter, and his wife, Sandra of State College; two grandchildren, Christine Krasnansky (Ron) of State College, and Joseph Halvor Delauter, II, of Lewisburg, PA, and two great granddaughters, Chloe and Lauren Krasnansky of State College; two nephews, Andrew Knutsen, Santa Cruz, CA, and the Rev. James Knutsen and niece, Mary Knutsen of Santa Rosa, CA, and several cousins from western New York. Funeral services will be on Friday, April 20, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, with The Rev. Richard Wall officiating. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 208 W. Foster Ave., State College, PA 16801. Arrangements are being coordinated by Koch Funeral Home.
