Obituary of Thomas Grandy

Thomas Edward Grandy, 55, of Centre Hall, died peacefully while surrounded by his loved ones Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at his residence after a valiant fight with cancer. Born February 14, 1957, in Charleroi, he was the youngest son of the late Richard H. and Teresa Aglio Grandy. He is survived by a two sons, Daniel Grandy and his fiancé, Casey Thompson, of Centre Hall, Nigel Grandy, of Centre Hall, his girlfriend, Diahann G. Heverly of Blanchard, and a brother, Richard Grandy Jr. and his wife, Rita, of Monongahela. Among Tom's many passions was the sport of baseball. He began playing at a very early age in a Pony League and even had an appearance at the Pony League World Series. He enjoyed watching younger son Nigel play baseball for many Little League and Legion teams and was a loyal Penns Valley High School Baseball team fan as Nigel is the team's catcher. Tom enjoyed watching Daniel build computers and robots in high school and at Penn State University. He was very proud of his sons. Tom also enjoyed traveling to many places and his favorite place to visit was Hawaii. He loved his pets, faithfully took care of them, and is survived by his dog Bernard and two cats. Thomas was a graduate of Charleroi Area High School in 1975. While there he lettered in baseball. He enjoyed working at the Charleroi Bowling Lanes through high school and college. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1979. While there he was the captain of the bowling team and liked bowling against and visiting other colleges in the league. He was a loyal employee of Wolf Furniture for 26 years. He treasured the many friendships he had with fellow employees and his valued customers. He greatly enjoyed the bowling league that he participated in at Bellefonte Lanes every Tuesday night. He spoke highly of his fellow bowlers and enjoyed the many friendships he had with the men in his league. Tom bowled at the PA State Bowling championships every year on a team and as a single. Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM on Monday, May 14, 2012 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College and 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Spallino Funeral Home, 819 Fallowfield Avenue, Charleroi, PA 15022. Funeral service will be held at10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Spallino Funeral Home with the Rev. George Moneck officiating. Burial will be in the Monongahela Cemetery.
