Obituary of Adam Harwell

Adam Joseph Harwell, 18, passed away on May 11, 2012, at Hershey Medical Center following a brief illness. Born on November 22, 1993, he is the son of Kevin Ray Harwell and Joyce Ann (Wilfred) Harwell. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in State College and was baptized on June 19, 1995. He was a student at State College Area High School. Adam had many, many friends in the community and at his church who saw beyond his physical and intellectual challenges. They knew him as a loving, affectionate young man for whom there were no strangers. He generously provided those around him with lots of laughter, hugs and pats on the nose. Adam enjoyed music of all kinds, road trips, camping with his family and friends, going to the beach, Penn State and Steelers football, and NASCAR races. He especially liked balloons, picnics, outdoor walks and attending baseball games. Adam was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his father and his brother Ethan; his grandmother Lucille Harwell of San Antonio; his Uncle Dennis and Aunt Kim Harwell of San Antonio; his Aunt Carolyn and Uncle Buckey Turk of Bryan, Texas; cousins Sarah Harwell of Juneau, Alaska; Adell Harwell Grim and husband, Evan, of Austin; Kristine Jones Shafer, husband, Drew, and son Dillon of Austin; Brian Jones of San Antonio; Amanda Turk Clair, husband, P.J., and son Luke of Dallas; Clara and Elizabeth Turk of Bryan, Texas; Godparents "Uncle" Greg and "Aunt" Tammi Cash and their children, Abigail, Hope and Noah, of Alton, Illinois; and numerous friends, caregivers, teachers and helpers. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., on Saturday, May 26th, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. G. Edwin Zeiders and Pastor Eric J. Shafer officiating.
