Obituary of James Bowman

James Dale Bowman 83 a resident of State College died Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Hearthside Nursing Home. He was born March 25, 1929 in Emporium the son of the late Andrew Dale and Margaret Narby Bowman. On August 20, 1951 he married the former Irene Mary Magagnotti who survives. Jim is survived by two sisters Anne Brunner and her husband Marc and Jean Pratt and her husband Robert both of Sun City Center, FL, and several nieces and nephews. Jim was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, and a graduate of Washington High School in 1947 then he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his time in the Army James attended Penn State and received a BS in 1959 and his MA in 1964 both in Industrial Engineering. James had a broad career in industrial engineering including as a professor of industrial engineering at Penn State, also with Bellows-Valvair of Akron, Ohio and Scientific Systems of State College. He also worked for private industry around the country as a consultant for many years. Jim enjoyed aviation, boating and photography. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Bald Eagle Power Squadron, a lifetime member of the Penn State Alumni Association, served on the College Township Industrial Development Authority, was a member of the State College B.P.O.E. #1600 Elks Lodge and a member of Alphi Phi Mu Industrial Engineering Honor Society for which he also served as faculty advisor for several years. Friends will be received at the Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street on Tuesday from 1 until 3 p.m. in the afternoon. A funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, PA on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Monsignor David A. Lockard officiating. Burial will be in Saint Charles Cemetery in New Bethlehem.
