Born August 18, 1922, in Buffalo, New York, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Laskowski Marcinkowski. Upon high school graduation from Villa Maria Academy she took a year off to save money to enter nursing school. Seeing an opportunity to gain her education and serve her country, she joined the Army Nurse Corp training program and became a registered nurse. Her graduation coincided with war's end. She then entered into medical surgical nursing at E.J. Meyer Memorial Hospital, Buffalo and spent the majority of her nursing career at Sheehan Memorial Hospital, Buffalo until retirement in 1984.
