Obituary of Agnes Granlund

Agnes Helen (Knopic) Granlund died on May 8, 2013 at the Fairways Nursing Home in State College, PA after an extended illness. Agnes was born on June 5, 1935 in Johnsonburg, PA. She was raised by her Uncle and Aunt, Joseph and Lorraine Knopic, who preceded her in death. Agnes graduated from Johnsonburg High School. In 1957 she married her high school sweetheart Rodger Granlund. Agnes and Rodger lived in Nashville, TN for a year and then in Oak Ridge, TN while Rodger was on a training fellowship. In 1960 they moved to their present home in State College. Agnes was a homemaker, who devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. She was known by her family and friends as a master bargain hunter and loved going to garage sales and thrift shops. Her shopping was seldom for herself. She was especially pleased when she could find a special gift that matched a friend or family member's special interest. Agnes was a volunteer at the Centre Community Hospital. She served as Chair of the Emergency Room Volunteers and trained many new volunteers. She was recognized as the Hospital Volunteer of the Year in 1985 for her many years of volunteer work. Agnes is survived by her husband of 55 years, Rodger Granlund and by her children, their spouses and grandchildren: Carl Granlund, wife Sharyn and children Andrew, Casey and Noah of Stewartstown, PA; Eric Granlund, wife Aletta and son Alex of Warriors Mark, PA; Forrest Granlund, wife Susan and son Chase of Dublin, OH; and Ingrid Stevens, husband Joseph and children Alyson, Emily, and Joshua of Altoona PA. She is also survived by a brother James Knopic of Iowa City, IA. Visitation will be 6-8 PM on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Koch Funeral Home at 2401 S. Atherton St. State College. The funeral service will be at 10 AM on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the funeral home.
