Obituary of Eva Noll

Eva Owings Davies Noll, 85, died June 10 at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center of a stroke. She was born in Philadelphia on February 27, 1928 to Vivian Prout Davies and Robert Charles Davies. She grew up in Lansdowne, graduating from Lansdowne High School and Penn State University where she majored in Secondary Education: History, with a double minor in Mathematics and English Literature. At Penn State she was president of Tri Delta sorority and met her future husband, Air Force Lieutenant. Ray C. Noll, Jr. of Pleasant Gap. She was able to join Ray in Japan where he was stationed during the Korean War, teaching American History on Miho Air Force Base. Education was always foremost in her endeavors, culminating in years of being a long term substitute teacher, in History, Math, English, and Phys. Ed. She was the Historian for Pennsylvania's Project 1776, an international guide for Tours Ala Carte, leading tours throughout Europe, Russia, and Japan. Other honors include: President of Main Line School Night for 14 years, President of the Valley Forge Branch of AAUW, National Archive Chairman for Delta Delta Delta Sorority and the Cosmopolitan Club of Philadelphia, Founder and Lecturer of the Valley Forge Elderhostel Program, and Chairwoman of the Board for the Philadelphia Society for the Preservation of Landmarks. She was hired by the Brandywine River Museum to take the Wyeth's "3 Generations" exhibition to Russia during the mid-1980s. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ray C. Noll Jr., son, Ray C. Noll III (Deb Marciano) of Valdosta, GA, daughter, Vivian P. Noll of State College, and grandchildren Gwen J. Noll of San Diego, Katie J. Noll of Manyunk, PA, Vivian M. Caracillo of Pleasant Gap, and Anthony R. Caracillo of State College, sister, Joan Kurtz (Donald) of Danville, CA, sister-in-law, Janet Noll Naumer, of Sedona, AZ, and a niece and three nephews, and many life-long friends. A Goodbye service will be 6 until 8 p.m., on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., on Friday, June 14, 2013, at the State College Presbyterian Church, 132 W. Beaver Avenue, State College, with the Reverend Joel T. Blunk Officiating. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to her beloved Alma Mater, PSU Secondary Education in Memory of Eva Owings Davies Noll to: Penn State University, College of Education, 247 Chambers Bldg., University Park, PA 16802.
