Obituary of Ida Gates

Ida Mary Gates, 98, of Lemont, died Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. Born October 16, 1914, in Saulsburg, Huntingdon County. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Sarah Ruth Guyer DeArmitt. On June 14, 1933 she married Robert G. Gates who died November 16, 1984. She is survived by one son, Vincent H. Gates and his wife, Martha, of San Antonio, TX; two sisters, Teresa Henninger, of Forest City, NC and Blanche DeArmitt, of Alexandria; three brothers, Walter DeArmitt and his wife, Susan, of Huntingdon, Wayne DeArmitt and his wife, Mary Jane, of Houserville, Ellis DeArmitt and his wife, Dorothy, of Mooresville; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. . She was preceded in death by one son, Richard Gates, whose wife, Patricia Hoak, survives in Florida. She was also preceded in death by two sisters; Sarah Henninger, Grace "Polly" Bargonies and five brothers, Lester, Harry, Stanley, Owen and Francis DeArmitt. She was a clerk in the Poultry Science Department at Penn State University retiring in 1980 after eighteen years of service. She was a member of the Spring Creek Presbyterian Church in Lemont. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the funeral home with the Rev. Ann Graves officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park, State College.
