Obituary of Jack Lawrie

Jack D. Lawrie, of Warriors Mark, born in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Wm. Glenn Lawrie and LauraBelle Hall Lawrie passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013. He was predeceased by his parents, sister and three brothers. Survived by his wife, Irene, at home. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the time of the Korean War. A graduate of Norwalk (Ohio) High School, he received a baccalaureate degree as well as a Master of Arts degree from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Also, he earned a doctoral degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Jack was active in educational circles for many years and in a number of states. He first served as an elementary school teacher, then became a school principal and a school district superintendent. For a brief period, he also was an adjunct lecturer for the University of Virginia; then a professor and a Dean at the University of Chattanooga in Tennessee. During his career as an educator he was active in professional, civic and business organizations, frequently serving as an officer and/or a board member. For a number of years in post-retirement, Jack was the Executive Director of the Ruskin (FL.) Chamber of Commerce. There will be no viewing; a memorial service will be private for family only. Contributions, in lieu of flowers, in his memory may be made to an animal welfare organization. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home.
