Obituary of Joseph Saxion

Joseph Edward Saxion, 94, of State College, died Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at Centre Crest, Bellefonte. Born March 12, 1919, in Port Matilda, he was the son of the late Edward L. and Ruth E. Benner Saxion. On June 7, 1945, he married Beatrice Corl who survives. Also surviving are three children, Janet Wagner and her husband, Steve, of Manheim, Charlene Yoho and her husband, Jim, of Port Matilda and Mary Smith and her husband, Rusty, of Oak Harbor, WA.; two sisters, Geraldine Bush of Ephrata and Lois Fry and her husband, Francis, of Dallas; one brother-in-law, Tom Roush of State College; three grandchildren, Scottie Marie Wagner, Jonathan Folk and Sarah Elizabeth Yoho; one great-grandchild, Zachary Ebersole. He was preceded in death by one brother, William Saxion and two sisters, Ruth Bryson and Anna Roush. He attended the Waddle School. Joseph was a carpenter for Carl Long Jr. Carpentry, Witmer Construction, he was employed at the Port Matilda Brick Yard and farmed for 40 years. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in State College. Joseph was a member of the Baileyville Grange for 70 plus years and was a member and past treasurer of the Baileyville Sportsman Club. He enjoyed hunting, tenting at Grange Fair and spending time with family. Visitation will be 6 until 8 p.m., on Friday, November 8, 2013, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, November 9, 2013, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 1795 West College Avenue, State College, with the Reverend Charles Fitzgerald officiating. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 1795 West College Avenue, State College, PA 16801. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
