Obituary of Roy Spicer

Roy Edward Spicer, 80, of Boalsburg, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. Born January 17, 1933, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Wilbur Lee and Sara F. Summers Spicer. On July 1, 1950, he married Shela A. Callahan, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Sharon L. Pearson and her husband, Chris, of Centre Hall, R. Ed Spicer Jr. and his wife, Robin, of Spring Mills and Jay E. Spicer and his wife, Janice, of Gordon; two sisters, Betty Styers and her husband, Bob, of Coburn and Frieda Jacobs and her husband Bob, of Castanea; two brothers, Bradley Spicer and his wife, Leann, of Baton Rouge, LA. and Michael Spicer and his wife, Patti, of Boalsburg; three grandchildren, R. Ed III, Jake and Jed Spicer; one great-granddaughter, Katherine Spicer and his beloved pug, Millie. He attended State College Schools. Roy was the founder of Roy Spicer Construction and built many homes in the State College area. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Boalsburg. Roy was also a member of the F & AM Lodge 700 - State College, AASR Consistory of Altoona, the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona, Tall Cedars of Lebanon-Centre Forest, Centre County Shrine Club, the BPOE #1600 of State College, and he was the last surviving founding member of the Centre County Builder's Association. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Boalsburg Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231 or to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place Boston, MA, 02215.
