Obituary of Jon Hall

Jon K. Hall, 76, of Centre Hall, passed away early morning, on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. Born, June 23, 1937, in Derby, CT., he was the son of the late F. Kirtland and Olga Johnson Hall. On October 15, 1960, he married Elsie Pearson, who survives. In addition to his loving wife of fifty three years, he is survived by four children David Hall and his wife, Cynthia, of Elysburg, Kenneth Hall and his wife, Johanna, of Lewisburg, Eric Hall and his wife, Susan of Hershey and Karen Kuntz and her husband, Ronald of Alexandria; two sisters, Linda Christensen of Woodstock, IL. and Edith Seyler and her husband, Wendel, of Oxford, CT.; ten grandchildren, Brandon, Jeffrey, Kevin, Mark, Erik, Jessica, Emily and Alexander Hall and Anna and Sarah Kuntz; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew, David Seyler. He was a 1954 graduate of Ansonia High School in Ansonia, CT. Jon earned his B.S. in Agronomy from The University of Connecticut in 1958. He proudly served in the US Army from 1958 until 1961. Jon returned to school and earned his Master's in 1963and PhD in Agronomy from The Pennsylvania State University in 1966. Jon joined the faculty of Penn State in 1966 and served for 34 years, retiring as Associate Professor Emeritus. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Boalsburg. He was also a member of the society of Sigma Xi, Gamma Sigma, Phi Epsilon Phi and the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. Jon very much enjoyed his family and especially his grandchildren and working in his garden and yard. He was an avid PSU wrestling fan and fly fisherman - a lifelong passion he shared with his children. He was a kind man, a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed. Visitation will be 6:30 until 8:30, on Thursday, December 19, 2013, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., on Friday, December 20, 2013, at the funeral home, with the Reverend Brent Book officiating. Burial will be in Boalsburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jon may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 305 N Church St, Boalsburg, PA 16827. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
