Obituary of Marion Briscoe

Marion June Crenshaw Briscoe, a resident of State College for over 50 years, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College. Born August 3, 1930 in Carthage, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Eleanor Crenshaw. On August 30, 1951, she married Robert E. O. Briscoe, who preceded her in death on November 20, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jacquelyn Lee Crenshaw. She is survived by her daughter Deborah Graves of State College, her son John T. Briscoe of Thaxton, Virginia, and his wife Ann. She is also survived by her second son R. Kevin Briscoe, of Philipsburg, and his wife Laurie. She is survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Marion was a 1951 graduate of Southwest Missouri State University. Marion had many interests. She was an avid gardener. She always managed to find a place for her garden, even if it was inside the house. Her children joked about her Halloween cactus—her Christmas cactus that bloomed at Halloween. She was a water colorist and pastel artist. She was quite interested in investing and founded and was treasurer of several investment clubs. She loved genealogy; some parts of the family were traced back to the tenth century. But above these was her love of music. She sang constantly. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church Senior Choir for more than fifty years. She was a member of the bell choir for several years. She did not confine herself to one type of music. She sang in Sweet Adelines and sang in a performing quartet, the 4M Company for more than fifteen years. Marion will always be remembered for her love of family and friends, her ability to give of herself, her patience and her sense of humor and laughter. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m., on Friday, January 17, 2014, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 109 McAllister St., State College, with the Reverend Eric J. Shafer officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Fl. 32256 or St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 109 McAllister St., State College, PA 16801.
