Obituary of Dean Amick

Dean D. Amick, 78, of State College, died Sunday, January 26, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his family. Born August 31, 1935, in New Enterprise, he was the son of the late Luther and Lavina Eweis Amick. On March 6, 2009, in Hawaii, he married Grayce W. Rote, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Julene A. Yearick and her husband, David A., of State College and Dean D. Amick of Bethlehem; one grandson, David A. Yearick, Jr. of State College; five step-children, Vicki Witherite of PA Furnace, Russell Witherite and his wife, Sharon, of Lanse, David Witherite and his wife, Eleanor, of PA Furnace, Wendall Witherite and his wife, Lisa, of Centre Hall and Curt Witherite of Colorado Springs, CO; twenty two step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He was a 1953 graduate of Replogie High School in New Enterprise. Dean served in the United States Army as a military policeman from 1955 until 1957. Dean retired on December 31, 2009 as the Director of Field Operations for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in State College. Dean was inducted into the Pennsylvania Softball Hall of Fame in 1980 as a player and a manager. He was president of the Pennsylvania Amateur Softball Association from 1999 until his death. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m., on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., on Friday, January 31, 2014, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1250 University Drive, State College, with the Reverend Daniel R. Nold officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the A. S. A. of PA Softball Hall of Fame/Training Center, 311 Race Street, Sunbury, PA 17801 or to Centre County PAWS, 1401 Trout Road, State College, PA 16801.
