Obituary of Virginia Ewing

Virginia (Dinny) Ewing, 91, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at home in The Oaks at Pleasant Gap. She was the daughter of the late Ann Goller Harwood and the late Louis Dewey Harwood. She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Bronxville, NY, and attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Robert Edward Ewing, as well as five children Robert Jr., John, William, Andrew, and Jean. She was preceded in death by her youngest child, Edward. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. She was an active member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church for 27 years. Her loving nature was apparent throughout her life. As she raised her own children, she took in many dozens of foster children as well, often for lengthy periods of time and in groups in order to keep siblings together. She loved them all and left something in each of their lives. Her many beloved pets played a special role in her life and her family. A memorial service will take place at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 208 W. Foster Ave, State College, Pa, at 11am on Saturday, March 1. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.
