Obituary of Eugene Manahan

Eugene J. Manahan, 86, of State College, died day, date, at location, in State College. Born on August 14, 1927, in Hillsdale, NJ, he was the son of the late Charlotte Manahan. On March 3, 2001, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Eck Moore, who survives. Also surviving is one son, Michael Peter Manahan, Sr. and his wife, Georgina, of State College, three grandchildren, Jennifer Nemet and her husband, John; Erica Manahan; and Michael Peter Manahan, Jr. and his wife, Lauren; two great-grandsons, Emerson Manahan and Jaxton Nemet; one cousin, Marguerite Malcolm of East Brunswick, NJ; four stepchildren, Cheryl DeWitt and her husband, Robert, John Moore and his wife, Barbara, Janet Moore, Victoria Mishcon and her husband, Jon. He was a graduate of Englewood High School in Englewood, New Jersey. Eugene attended Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ and Fordham University in NY. He was a Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II, during the Occupation in Sendai, Japan. Eugene held managerial positions in Finance and Administration during his working career in both the U.S. and Puerto Rico. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, where he served as an extraordinary Minister of Communion and as a Lector. Eugene was a member of the State College Council #4678 Knights of Columbus, a Sir Knight in Our Lady of Victory Assembly #1338 and a participant in the Burning Tee Golf League. He was a former member of the State College Lodge of the BPO Elks #1600. While living in Lewistown he was a volunteer at the Lewistown Hospital where he also served as a Community Representative for the Renovation program. He served a term on the Board of Directors of the Mifflin/Juniata County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Eugene was a volunteer tutor in the Adult Education GED program and was Treasurer of the Parish Council in his former parish, Sacred Heart. He was Treasurer of the Knights of Columbus Club in a former council in Hackensack, NJ. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m., on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. A memorial mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2014, at Our Lady of Victory, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, with the Rev. Neil Dadey officiating. Burial will be in Maryrest Cemetery, in Darlington, NJ at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Victory School, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, PA 16801. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
