Obituary of Clarence Anderson

Lt. Col. Clarence "Roger" Anderson (Age 90) of State College, PA passed away on April 5, 2014. Roger was born April 2, 1924, and grew up in Ogden, Iowa. He graduated from North Park University in Chicago with an AA. He enlisted in the Army reserve Corp in 1942 and later was Commissioned 2nd Lt. June 1944 as a flight line forecaster. He was stationed in Nebraska, Missouri, Saipan, and Iwo Jima. He had an honorable discharge in 1946 and attended the Universty of Chicago where he earned a B.S. in Math and Meteorology in 1948 and an MBA in 1950. Roger was called to active duty August 1950. Throughout his Air Force career he was assigned to Chicago Air Procurement Office twice, Air Force Plant Representative to Ford Motor in Claycomo, MO, assigned to Tachikawa, Japan, 1956-1960 as contracting officer for maintenance and repair of aircraft and jet engines, then to Iowa State University as Professor of Air Science, the Pentagon, Chief of Industrial Contracts to the Office of Scientific Research in Rosslyn VA, then to Ankara Turkey, as Director of Programming in the Military Advisory group. Last assignment was at Bolling AFB as the Director of Procurement for Bolling and Andrews. He received two Air Force Commendation Medals and the DOD Meritorious Service Medal. Roger retired in August 1974. After retirement he was employed by Business Management Associates, Oakton, VA as a senior consultant in procurement and was on the Board of Directors until 2008. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marie Kapranos Anderson on August 25, 2011. He is survived by one daughter, Susan (Dave) Howard of Port Matilda, PA and one son, Paul (Susan) Anderson of Bloomfield Hills, MI. He was the loving grandfather to four grandchildren, William and Steven Howard and Katie and Nathan Anderson. His interests included: classical music, worldwide travel, cruises, business and finance magazines, investing, daily newspaper, bridge among other things. He was a member of the Little River United Church of Christ in Annandale, VA for over forty years. He chaired several of the church's committees and was a life Deacon. He moved to State College in 2012 following the passing of his wife Marie and became a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Boalsburg, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to St John's United Church of Christ, 218 N. Church St, Boalsburg, PA 16827. A memorial service and internment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
