Obituary of Arlene Lower

Arlene Mae Lower, 86, of State College, died Monday, June 2, 2014, at Elmcroft of State College. Born October 23, 1927, in Norristown, she was the daughter of the late Arthur S. and Lillian Mae Frey Anders. Arlene grew up on working on the family farm; her job was to cultivate the cornfields. She graduated from Norristown High School and later attended Pennsylvania State University. On December 6, 1947, Arlene married William F. Lower, who preceded her in death on September 7, 2001. She is survived by her children, James F. Lower and wife, Pamela of State College, Kenneth R. Lower and wife, Sue of Brockport, NY, Steven T. Lower and wife, Lin of State College; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Macaulay and husband, George of Lenera, KA and Marilyn Guidinger and her husband, John, of Jackson, MN. In addition to her husband, Arlene is preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Mae Lower; and brother, Arthur S. Anders, Jr. She was employed as a dispatcher for Centre Area Transportation Authority for twenty-two years until her retirement in 2000. Arlene was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ. Additionally, she was a member of Women's Guild, Pine Hall Cemetery Association, Lady Emily Rebekah Lodge, Inter-county District Deputy Presidents Association Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00p.m on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 6, 2014, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 1795 West College Avenue, State College with the Rev. Charles Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 1795 W. College Ave., State College, PA 16801.
