Obituary of Jr. Boal

Earl E. Boal Jr. 81 a lifelong resident of State College died on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born May 21, 1929 in Bellefonte, PA son of the late Earl E. and Nellie Elenaora Adams Boal. On May 4, 1985 he married the former Barbara Arnold who survives in State College. A graduate of State College High School class of 1947. He was employed in the Penn State Physcial Education Department for 35 years at the golf courses. He retired in 1984 as head golf professional. He was a life Member of the PGA having joined in 1958.For a number of years when golf season ended he could be found at the ice skating rink. After his wife and family, golf was his life's passion. He believed everyone should know how to play golf and gave lessons to many in Center County. After retiring from Penn State he continued to follow his passion of teaching golf at Tussey Mountain, Toftrees Country Club, in hotel lobbies, backyards, over the phone and anywhere or anytime. He also was Toftrees' first concierge sharing his knowledge of Centre County with many visitors. He continued those duties at the Holiday Inn Express. Earl was an advid Penn State fan, attending football games for more than 50 years. He also loved to watch the Lady Lion Volleyball and Basketball teams. In addition to his wife he is survived bya daughter Deborah Boal and a son Earl Edward Boal III both of State College, a step daughter Kinberly Ann Staub Goodrow and her husband Eugene of Syracuse, NY and a stepson Mark David Staub and his wife Karen of Plesant Gap. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Kayla Goodrow, Megan Staub, Ed and Christopher Boal and one grandson Ryan Goodrow. Earl's family will receive friends for a time of remembrance to celebrate Earl's life on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 Atherton Street, State College, PA from 5 until 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Earl's memory to PSU's Turfgrass Science Program, or to the PSU Golf Team at Old Main, University Park, PA 16804 Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
