Ramsey Stade Barlow Ramsey Stade Barlow, March 21, 1952-June 30, 2014. Ramsey Stade Barlow of State College died Monday, June 30, 2014. She was born March 21, 1952 in Evanston, Illinois to Charles and Annette Stade (née Grewe) and grew up in Park Ridge, Illinois. Ramsey was an only child. She graduated from Maine South High School in Park Ridge in 1970 where she developed an interest in art. After graduation, Ramsey went on to attend Northwestern University, graduating with a B.A. in English in 1974 and a Masters in Management in 1976. At Northwestern, she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and was later very active in the State College chapter of the Kappa Delta Alumni Association, including spending time as an officer. On January 10, 1981, Ramsey married Jesse Barlow, then a Ph.D. student in computer science at Northwestern. She moved with Jesse to State College that same year, where he joined the faculty at Penn State in what is now the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. In addition to Kappa Delta, Ramsey was active in Art Alliance, serving as President in the late 1980s. She also volunteered for International Hospitality Council at Penn State, and was active in Hadassah, a Jewish women's organization. Ramsey studied Japanese and often hosted Japanese students for International Hospitality Council. Ramsey was very outgoing, enjoyed long conversations and getting to know new people. She had a deep appreciation of art and architecture, and was extraordinarily fond of animals, especially cats. Ramsey was a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her husband, Jesse, of State College, her daughter, Hilary Barlow, of Toronto, Canada, and her son, Zachary Eun Soo Barlow, of State College. A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County, 11am-12 noon on 19 July, with a light lunch reception afterward. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
