Obituary of Donald Zimmer

Donald Joseph Zimmer, 83, of State College, Pa., and recently of Jupiter, Fla., died Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. Born March 31, 1931, in New York, NY, to the late Ben and Esther Rose Zimmer, Donald spent most of his life living and working in the tri-state area. Donald is survived by children from his first marriage to Lois Kean Zimmer: Rachel Zimmer Horn (Houston, TX), Darynn Zimmer, (New York, NY) Benett Zimmer, (Long Island, NY) Adrienne Krasowitz (State College, PA) and was sadly predeceased by his beloved son, Douglas Zimmer who died on August 16, 2014. Also survived by his sons-in-law Sandy Horn and Jason Krasowitz; daughter-in-law Gena Mordente Zimmer; and Benett's partner Marc Brown. He was beloved by his grandchildren: Casey and Devan Horn; Max, Sam, Lucy and Eliza Krasowitz. He is also survived by his step children Greg Bongiorno, Billy Bongiorno, Rose Franke and their children. Donald was a 1953 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business which he attended on a football scholarship. He was also a 1964 graduate of New York Law School where he earned his Juris Doctorate degree. He worked as a criminal defense attorney for many years including his time as partner at Siben and Siben law firm on Long Island. Upon retirement, he moved to Jupiter, Fla with his second wife to whom he referred as the love of his life, the (late) Mary Frances Brown Zimmer. Throughout his life, Donald enjoyed and participated in a variety of activities including sports and music. He was an incredible bridge player, continuously honing and sharing his skills with others right to the end. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., on Friday, September 5, 2014, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College, with the Rabbi David Ostrich officiating. Burial will be in Boalsburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Brit Shalom, 620 East Hamilton Ave., State College, PA 16801.
