Obituary of Sr. Johns

Robert Lee "Bob" Johns, Sr., 80, of State College, died on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Hearthside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his loving family. Born June 16, 1934 in Houtzdale, Bob was the son of John Henry and Myrtle (Burchill) Johns. He married Alice Joan Donofreo on August 23, 1958 in Rockville Centre, NY. Bob is survived by his wife, Alice Johns; three children, Robert Lee Johns, Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, of State College, Linda L. Lee and husband, Joe, of State College, and Patti A. Story and husband, Tom, of Broken Arrow, OK; grandchildren, Stephanie, Christian, Bethany and husband Cole, Robert III, Ryan, Kelly, Jennifer, Tommy and wife Avery; and great-granddaughter, Mackenzie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy, George, Jack, Jimmy, and Richard. Bob was a graduate of Southside High School in Rockville Centre, NY. Following graduation, he enlisted and served in the United States Navy. Bob worked for Nabisco in the sales department in Rockville Centre, NY and later owned and operated his own business there. He was Captain of the Rockville Centre Volunteer Fire Department. In 1971, Bob moved his family to State College, where he worked as a Sales Representative, covering the state of Pennsylvania, selling petroleum for several companies. He attended Calvary Church, where he was an usher and greeter. Bob's contagious smile touched the lives of all who knew him. His love for his family, and friends, was a reflection of his love for Jesus. Bob loved playing golf, reading, working in the yard, traveling, and raising boxers. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Bob was a member of many organizations. He belonged to Centre County Shrine, Lynbrook-Massapequa Lodge No. 822, Altoona Jaffa Shrine, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Scottish Rite, State College Elks Lodge, and American Legion. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Calvary Church, 1250 University Drive, State College. A celebration of life will follow at 12:00 noon with Pastor Dan Nold officiating. Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family, in Centre County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org, or 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 606, or to Grane Hospice Care, 106 Zee Plaza, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648 in memory of Robert Lee "Bob" Johns, Sr. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
