Obituary of Carrie Martorana

Carrie M. Martorana, 96, of Coeymans Hollow, NY, died Sunday, December 14, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Delmar, NY. Born January 30, 1918 in Kilbourne, Louisiana, she was the daughter of John C. and Blanche Smith Stephenson. She married Sebastian "Marty" V. Martorana, on September 20, 1947, who preceded her in death on January 23, 2000. She is survived by three children, Vincenne M. Kirmss and her husband, Alfred, of Coeymans Hollow, NY, Francis S. Martorana and his wife, Ann Marie, of Cazenovia, NY, J. Charles Martorana,and his wife, Elizabeth, of Manassas, VA, a sister, Ann Barrier of Panama City, FL, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Mary Tretter, Maxine Davis and four brothers, S.A. Stephenson, J.C. Stephenson, Reeves Stephenson and Francis Stephenson. Carrie graduated high school at 16, she knew math was what she would pursue at Louisiana Tech University. By the time she was 20, she had a master's in math from Louisiana State University. She taught for math 10 years at LSU Northeast until she married Marty and became a homemaker. Carrie and Marty moved many times with their family until finally settling in Centre Hall, PA. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, State College. She also was President of Penn State's Faculty Women's Club from 1990-1991. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College with the Father Michael A. Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in Boalsburg Cemetery. Instead of flowers the family is asking that Memorial contributions may be made to the Martorana Family Awards for Education, at 247 Chambers Building, University Park.PA, 16802 Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
