Obituary of Donald Fry

Donald Fred Fry, 75, of State College, died on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center. Fred was born October 17, 1939 in Manor Hill in Huntingdon. He was the son of Donald W. and Iola Lightner Fry. Fred is survived by his wife, Dorothy "Dotti" Tompkins Fry; children, Scott A. Fry and wife, Sharon Lester, of Pennsylvania Furnace, and Michael A. Fry of Bellefonte; grandchildren, Mitchell Lester, Austin Fry, Bella Fry, and Destiny Zucker; brother, Robert E. Fry and wife, Rose Fetteroff, of State College; and sister, Shirley Heidrich of State College. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Snoopy, his beloved Pomeranian dog. Fred was a 1958 graduate of State College High School. He later served in the United States Army in the 11th Air Assault Division from 1963 until 1969. Fred worked as a code enforcement officer for the borough of State College for many years until his retirement in 1999. After which, he volunteered as a school crossing guard. Fred was a life member of Alpha Fire Company, Alpha Fire Police, and Centre Life Link. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 245, Baileyville Grange No. 1991, and Die Hard Campers. He was an avid Lady Lions Basketball fan. Fred enjoyed woodworking and attending the Grange Fair each year. Fred loved his family and was a great husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be held at 10am on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at Koch Funeral Home with the Reverend Warren Shulzaberger officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
