Obituary of Elaine Nichols

Elaine Nichols, 82, of State College, died on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born on August 15, 1932 in Perivoli, Lamias in Greece, she was the daughter of Spiro and Georgia Tzortsos. Elaine is survived by her husband, Gus T. Nichols; two daughters, Franney Klypka and her husband, Mark, of Wayne, NJ, and Georgia Verkuilen and her husband, Michael, of Belvidere, NJ; grandchildren, Ellyn Klypka, Jennee Klypka, Nicholas Verkuilen, and Alexa Verkuilen; and sister, Angeliki Tseliou. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Nicholas Tzortsos. Elaine attended school in Greece and was later employed as a seamstress. She married Gus on June 23, 1957 in Greece and soon after moved to the United States. Elaine worked with Gus in his restaurant, Gus's Dairy Lunch, in State College for over twenty years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Altoona. Elaine enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and taking care of her family. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2015, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 119 South Sparks Street, State College, with the Reverend John Reeves officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
