Obituary of Darrell Griffiths

Darrell John Langdon Griffiths, 86, of State College, died Monday, January 5, 2015 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. Born August 3, 1928 in Ammanford, Wales, he was the son of the late William and Emily Gweneth Langdon Griffiths. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Anna Valerie, with whom he shared a wonderful marriage of 45 years. He is survived by two children, Alun W. Griffiths and his partner, Muriel Monserrate, of Beacon, NY. and Jane R. Mangino and her husband, John, of State College. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jacob Langdon Chronister, Jasa Logan Chronister, Dallas Alun Mangino, Mia Ella Mangino and Valerie Anna Mangino. His later years were immeasurably brightened by his companion, Mary Thomas Williams, of Windsor England, who also survives. Darrell was an employee of Westvaco for more than 31 years, based for much of that time at the company's plant in Tyrone In his retirement, he commenced the serious study of Welsh, the language of his native land, ultimately winning awards for his written work in the Eisteddfod, a national festival in Wales. A private memorial service will be held in Swansea, Wales, UK per his final wishes and to have his remains returned home one last time. Cymru am Byth!
